For many years over the past few decades, the name George Fuggle was synonomous in the Southampton Tennis community with Junior Development work in the local area. George worked tirelessly to promote tennis to local children and make the sport accessible to as many people as possible. A lot of his activity was based at the Southampton Sports Centre. Sadly George passed away during 2006 and whilst he is sadly missed, his family have ensured that his spirit will live on for a long time in the city.
As part of the project to develop a thriving community tennis hub at the sports centre, George's family have made an incredibly kind donation to create the "George Fuggle Memorial Fund". This fund is used to promote and develop tennis within the local community and to provide outreach opportunities that otherwise would not have existed.
The fund exists to increase the availability of tennis in Southampton. It does not mean that coaching is necessarily be provided free-of-charge, although much of it is, however, it does allow us to heavily subsidise certain elements of our work.
If you represent a community group that you feel would benefit from some outreach work, please Contact Us.
